Iju
Iju
Once a year, you come
Bringing a deluge
Of water and silt
Eroding levees and banks
And even houses too
While fertilizing our farms and nooks
Enriching them with dark alluvium
So that Ogbaru may grow food more abundantly
And retain its pride of place
As the bread basket of our region
Iju,
You bring fresh fish too and succour
Freshness of mind and spirit
Even if once a year we cherish
You advent and the message
That life always come to a full circle
