Engineer Obiechina Chris Ebonwu was born on 1st October 1945 to late Ajie Chukwuji Ebonwu and Mrs Nneka Ebonwu of Umuotutu village of Akili Ogidi, Ogbaru.  He was the first of seven children of his parents

He had his primary education at Township School, Warri, and thereafter went to Government College Ugheli (GCU) for his secondary education.  After his Advance level in pure sciences in GCU, he taught at Urhobo

college, Effurun before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University with the then Electricity Corporation of Nigeria E.C.N scholarship but later transferred to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka due to the civil war.

He graduated with a second class upper division in electrical engineering at UNN and started his professional career as a pupil engineer with E.C.N. (now N.E.P.A).  He served in various capacities and rose to the top level management position in the technical team of N.E.P.A operations from power stations, workshop to inspection, where he showed a  high level of professional excellence on the job.

Engineer Obiechina got married to Bridget Nkechi Ebonwu (Nee Oduah) on 13/12/80, and they were blessed by God with two girls and a set of male twins.

He was a generous man who gathered all together and always cherished the company of loved ones and friends.  He contributed to the lives of many in various ways.  An ardent catholic who took pride in the development of the Church and Community.  He was very concerned about the education of others and wished that all around him were literate and adequately informed.  He was a friend to all, a counsellor and an upright man that knew not the word  "enemy",  strict and at the same time benevolent.  He personified the virtue of honesty, loyalty, hard work, diligence and dedication to service.  Probity and accountability were his watchwords, and he abhorred financial recklessness.

Patience until God sets you on high was his philosophy.  He fought for or over nothing, knowing fully well that he came into this world with nothing and bound to leave it in the same way.  He was a leader and a principled man of repute with indept  knowledge of technical specification.  His grieving wife described him as  descent and loving.

Death was no threat but passed you unto glory.  He said on his sickbed "I am not afraid to die, I have my way right with God, neither do I regret to die."  He died peacefully having discussed closely with the wife, children, brothers and close friends.

Sunday, 6th May, 2001 was that day when sickness and pain had no hold on you meeting your saviour.  We wish others will prepare to meet their God. Rest in the bossom of thy Lord. Amen.
