The promise made by the Ogbaru-USA Association, Inc., (OUA) in November 2002 to assist in upgrading the Atani Public Library, Atani in Ogbaru LGA  became a reality on 4 June 2003.

On that day, the improvement project undertaken by the Ogbaru-USA Association, Inc. of New Jersey and New York, valued at N500,000.00 (five hundred thousand naira ) was completed.  The improvement included:

Electrification of Library Building

Installation of Toilet Water System Facilities

Library Furniture ( 7 reading desks, 7 bookshelves and 28 chairs)

Two Computers and

Several copies of Ogbaru USA Journal and Medical and Academic Journals

Mr. Oseloka Obaze, a representative of Ogbaru-USA, Inc, made the presentation to the Ogbaru Public Library Branch Librarian, Mr Emmanuel Nwabuzor during a brief ceremony  held at noon, which was watched by the Library Staff and a few invited guests.

While making the presentation, Mr. Obaze said that the donation by OUA, which was one of the five Ogbaru Associations in the United States, was a gesture of self-help, by which OUA members wanted to give back a little to their home community in Ogbaru.  The gesture underscored the importance OUA members attached to education and literacy at all levels in Ogbaru.

Mr. Nwabuzor called the donation unprecedented in the brief history of the Library, but one that should motivate other Ogbaruans to make similar donations. He noted that OUA had blazed the trail, and should be emulated. He underscored that the Ogbaru Public Library had other needs, but that the donation by OUA was a fine starting point for addressing such needs.
