The OGBARU USA ASSOCIATION, INC. (OUA) at its meeting held in Maplewood, New Jersey on 26 April 2003 approved a donation of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) towards the facelift and improvement of the Ogbaru Public Library in Atani, Ogbaru LGA, Anambra State.  The decision followed the consideration of the needs assessment report on the Library presented to the Association by its representative who visited to the library in November 2002.  The amount donated by the Association will be used primarily for following:

¨     Electrification Of The Library Building

¨       Water System Toilet Facilities

¨       Library Desks And Chairs

¨       Two Computers

In deciding to make the donation, the Ogbaru USA Association, Inc. took into account that the Atani Public Library was the only public library in the Ogbaru Local Government Area. The Library serves both the general public and the campus of the Oko Polytechnic, Atani.

The Association also reiterated the importance, which its members collectively attach to education and giving every Ogbaru child a head start in reading and writing. The Association also expressed its belief that such self-help projects, which it was committed to continue undertaking, would further empower the local community while encouraging other Ogbaruans and Ogbaru Associations to embark on similar projects.

The Association hopes in the future to donate books, reference materials and other amenities that may be needed by the Ogbaru Public Library. It is expected that the improvement project will be completed by the end of summer 2003.
