The Librarian and Mr. Oseloka Obaze

A representative of the Ogbaru-USA Association, Inc. (NJ/NY), Mr. Oseloka Obaze visited the Ogbaru Public Library at Atani on 12 November 2002. The visit was a fact-finding one in order to ascertain the needs of the Library , which was a designated beneficiary of the Association’s 2002 Fundraising Event held on 27 July 2002.

During the visit Mr. Obaze met and exchanged views with the Branch Librarian, Mr. Emmanuel Nwabuzor. He informed the Librarian that as part of its homebound, self-help projects aimed at development and alleviation of problems and needs in Ogbaru, the Ogbaru-USA Association, Inc. (NJ/NY), was committed to assisting the Library, and in so doing also assisting Ogbaruans who might find need to use the Library facilities. The Association would do whatever was within its limited resources to help.

Mr Nwabuzor applauded the vision and selfless service of the Assocaition and those Ogbaruans abroad who remembered those at home and who placed priority on education nd reading. He said he was aware that the Assocaition had been very proactive is assisting various Ogbaru communities. He noted that the Atani Public Library, which was commissioned in 1997 by the then Anambra State Military Governor, still lacked many amenities. Therefore, whatever assistance the Assocaition could give to the Library would be much appreciated. Asked what top priorities for the Library were, Mr Nwabuzor listed the following:

  • Electrification of the Library Building
  • Toilet facilities for the Library
  • Book Shelves
  • Reading Desks and Chairs
  • A Manual Typewriter
  • A Computer

The library also needed material resources in the form of text and reference books on:

  • Agriculture
  • Business Administration
  • Computer Science/Technology
  • Criminology.
  • Engineering
  • Medicine
  • Political Science
  • Public Administration

Mr. Nwabuzor also noted that given the presence of a campus of the Okoh Polytechnic in Atani, the Library had a lot of clientele and could indeed serve more people if better equipped. Mr. Obaze agreed to convey to Ogbaru-USA Association, Inc. (NJ/NY), the needs of the Library. He said he was sure that the Association would in due course be making a donation towards alleviating some the Library’s need.
